Review: 'Detroit' Is A Horror Movie Of Our Time And For Our Time

‘Detroit’ Annapurna Pictures ‘Detroit’ The Box Office: Annapurna Pictures will release director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal’s Detroit into select theaters today in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Washington DC, Atlanta, Houston and Baltimore. The film will go wide as intended next weekend but they decided to snag a mighty per-screen-average first and build some buzz for what is surely the date night/feel-good movie of the summer. It shares that distinction with Paramount/Viacom Inc.’s An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power which also opens in platform release tomorrow. Wow, the Arclight is going to be a party this weekend. This will be Annapurna’s first theatrical release after producing the likes of Zero Dark Thirty for the distribution of others. Megan Ellison’s company has quickly built a reputation for reasonably-budgeted, high-end adult-skewing prestige entertainments, like Zero Dark Thirty , American Hustle and 20 th Century Women (you can argue that the theological satire Sausage Party counts as well).
